HIPLA Members:

What are your views on where HIPLA is and where it should be going? How should HIPLA commit its financial and volunteer resources? What are you interested in doing for the benefit of HIPLA?

These and other questions were posed by the HIPLA Board to a Long Range Planning Committee during the summer of 2007. Thereafter the committee met and prioritized its recommendations regarding the future of HIPLA. Those recommendations have been reviewed by the Board - now is your opportunity to provide your input.

The following are some of the questions that began the long range planning process:

  • Should the organization take a stronger role in advocating positions of interest to the IP community?
  • Should the organization take a stronger role in Houston area pro-bono activities related to the IP community?
  • Should the organization take a stronger role re the development of IP-related businesses in the Houston Area?
  • Should the organization attempt to expand its activities with local law school's IP departments?
  • Should the organization try to coordinate luncheons with other local bar associations more frequently?
  • Should the organization attempt to initiate IP-related educational activities with local college technology departments?
  • Should the organization attempt to organize an occasional purely social event, of short or longer duration, for members and their families?
  • Should attempts be made to initiate a stronger relationship with other local bar associations? If so, for what purpose?
  • Should attempts be made to initiate a stronger relationship with local IP-oriented paralegal professional organizations?
  • Should the website be used to facilitate any of the above, or other, in a stronger way?

The results of the Committee’s activities in priority order are shown in this Table.

The HIPLA Board solicits your thoughts and input – send emails with your comments, suggestions and offers to volunteer to Al Riddle.
